Why were floppy disks called that if they weren't floppy?

The reason why floppy disks are called floppy disk is because while the casing is hard the recording disk it self was floppy. Though floppy disks are not used a lot in todays society when they were popular there was smaller disk ranging from 5 to 8 inches these disks were able to be opened and you could see the disk which was made of flexible plastic coated in magnets so it could write data similar to how a cd works with the exception that it uses magnetic fields in stead of light. The later 3.5 inch floppy disks you can't really tell that it is floppy because it is fitted into a hard plastic case.
